So what is a Topper or Mattress Pad?
A memory foam topper is a 2″- 4″ layer of memory foam that you put on your existing bed. This enables you to experience the comfort and pressure relief benefits of a full memory mattress at a fraction of the cost. Your existing bed acts as the base support and does the heavy weight bearing. However your existing bed does need to be in good condition or the benefits will be lost.
The Benefits Of A Memory Foam Topper
The main benefit of a Memory Foam Topper over a full Memory Foam Mattress is the cost. Depending on the quality of your existing bed you should be able to achieve all the benefits of sleeping on a memory foam mattress as compared to a conventional mattress.
Which One Do I Buy?
There are many products on the market so how do you go about choosing the best one for you? One of the first things you should look for is the density of the memory foam. Ideally 5lbs is the minimum you should be looking for. You should also try to ascertain how the topper is packed. The topper should always be compressed rather than vacuum packed. Vacuum packed mattreses rarely achieve their original density after being vacuum packed. At the very least it should have been compressed before vacuum packing.
